Fields of Mistria

Playing in Spanish, I ran into lines still in English and a dialogue box that cut off its last line. I wrote the issues up with repro steps and sent them to the developer.

About the game

Fields of Mistria is a farming RPG by NPC Studio. Its Spanish version is still in beta: the game says so on a notice at startup, warns that some lines may show up in English while the translation is finished, and points players to a form on the studio's site to report problems.

Nobody hired me for this. I found the problems while playing, wrote them up and sent them through that form.

Where to buy

You need your own copy of the game. The translation has no game files in it.

Case studies

What I found, and how I reported it

Two things went wrong in the first quests, the ones where you meet the villagers.

The first is text that doesn't fit. Cicuto's greeting runs past the bottom border of the dialogue box and the last line is cut in half. The Spanish is longer than the English, and nobody checked that line in the box. It still happens in the current version, with a short player name, so the name isn't what pushes it over.

The second is dialogue still in English. Balor, Marzón and Dell speak English in a Spanish game, and so does Rei: her two player choices are in English, and the reply right after them is in Spanish. That mix is the clearest sign that some strings never made it into the Spanish file.

I sent one report with both problems, grouped by character, with the exact strings, where each one happens and how to get there from a new game. Written that way, somebody who doesn't speak Spanish can still find each line and check it, and that is usually who reads the report first.

Going back later turned some of them into something more interesting. Balor says his line in Spanish some times and in English others, on the same save, and Dell does exactly the same. So those lines aren't missing from the Spanish file: they're in the game twice, and only one of the two copies was translated.

That's worth reporting on its own, and it's a different bug from the rest. “This line is missing” sends somebody looking through the Spanish file. “This line exists twice and one copy is in English” sends them to the place where it actually went wrong.

Marzón is somewhere in between: his greeting is in Spanish now, and the line right after it is still in English.

His greeting is also the one thing I checked that works exactly as it should. It names the player, and Spanish needs a gender there, so I played it on two saves with different pronouns. With she/her it says “la nueva granjera”. With they/them it says “le nueve granjere”, using the inclusive -e endings. The Spanish follows whatever you chose when you made your character, which is the part of this that's easiest to get wrong and nobody notices when it's right.

Rei hasn't changed at all: her two player choices and the line after them are still in English, with a Spanish line right before them. That mix is the strangest one to run into while playing.

All of that went into a second report a month after the first one, along with something new: the notice that announces the Spanish beta doesn't fit its own panel. Its heading is cut off at the top and the Close button is cut off at the bottom, because the Spanish text is longer than the English and the panel doesn't grow. It's the first thing you see after switching the game to Spanish.

Spanish localization: text overflow and untranslated dialogue

First report · September 2026

While playing in Spanish during the introductory quests, several dialogue lines appear in English, and one line overflows its dialogue box.

1Text overflow

Cicuto, at the Sleeping Dragon Inn: the last line of his greeting falls outside the bottom border of the text box.

Text affected: “...no dudes en pasarte por la Posada El Dragón Durmiente.”

2Untranslated strings

Balor: “The shops in this town depend on the stock I procure for them, so we're all looking forward to your business.”

March / Marzón, outside the blacksmith:

“Regardless of what Adeline says, we don't need an outsider to come in and solve our problems for us.”

“I- We have everything under control. Just don't get in the way.”

Dell, at the playground: “Let me know if you have any trouble and I can take care of them for you.”

Rei, inside the Inn, where both player choices stay in English:

“I've always dreamed of starting my own farm!”

“I heard there was free land up for grabs.”

And her reply: “Well, I hope you'll stop by and try my cooking some time.”

3Steps to reproduce

Set the game language to Spanish.

Start a new game and reach the quest where you introduce yourself to the villagers.

Talk to Balor, March, Dell, Rei and Cicuto.

Follow-up: duplicated lines, and a notice that doesn't fit

Follow-up · October 2026 · v1.0.6

I went back through the lines from the first report on v1.0.6. Some have changed, and two of them turned out to be a different problem than a missing translation. There is also one new issue, on the Spanish beta notice itself.

1Duplicated lines, in both languages

Balor and Dell each show the same line in Spanish on some interactions and in English on others, on the same save. The string looks like it exists twice and only one copy was translated.

Balor: “The shops in this town depend on the stock I procure for them…” / “Las tiendas de la aldea dependen de la mercancía que les facilite…”

Dell: “Let me know if you have any trouble…” / “Si alguna vez te pasa algo, avísame y yo me encargaré de ellos.”

2Partially translated NPC

March / Marzón: his greeting is in Spanish now, but the line right after it is still in English.

3Still untranslated

Rei: both player choices and her follow-up line.

4Text overflow still present

Cicuto: reproduced with two different three-letter player names, so the name length isn't the cause. The line itself is too long for the box. 1920x1080, fullscreen.

5New: the Spanish beta notice doesn't fit its panel

The notice shown at startup is taller than the panel holding it: the heading is cut off at the top and the Close button at the bottom. It's the first screen a Spanish player sees.

6Working correctly, no action needed

Marzón's greeting follows the player's pronouns: “la nueva granjera” with she/her, “le nueve granjere” with they/them. Checked on two saves.

Cicuto: the last line falls outside the box and is cut in half. Still there in the current version.
